Why do we celebrate Easter? #2

Author: rich | Filed under: funny

At lunch, Stacey and I compared notes from this morning’s service.  She served in KidMo with the elementary-age kids this morning, and before she dove into the songs and the story, she wanted to make sure the kids knew that Easter was about more than the Easter bunny. So she asked all the kids “Why do we celebrate Easter?”  And one of them immediately called out, with a big smile on his face, “Because Jesus is dead!”

(She honestly doesn’t remember which kid it was.  That means it was probably yours.)

She kept from bursting out laughing and asked, “And…? What happened next?”  And several kids called out, “And he came back to life!”

Just to make sure that stuck, she made them call out “Jesus is alive!” a whole bunch of times.  :)

  1. Rich, thanks again for stopping by last nite on Porter County Politics. You make a worthy point, which was noted by a few scholars in my life. Thanks

I commented there and will cliff note here, that it was my attempt, perhaps meager, to point out to my kids that Christ is God. Far too many attempts to separate them and make Jesus less God. God in essence raised himself from the dead, that portion of himself that was Jesus, because death is not master of he who created life.

Keep up the great work in your church, online, radio and elsewhere.

  2. No problem. :)

If anyone’s curious what he’s talking about, you can see the conversation that Steve and I had over at his blog post: http://reasonbellpundit.blogspot.com/2009/04/happy-resurrection-sunday-easter.html
